  1. Heat oil over medium heat in Dutch oven.
  2. Add onions and red pepper. Sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add garlic and mushrooms, stirring regularly for another five minutes taking care to not let garlic burn.
  4. Add chipotle chili powder, salt, and pepper. Stir for 30-60 seconds.
  5. Add black beans, tomatoes, broth, brown sugar, and wheat berries. Let simmer for 30 minutes.
  6. Garnish with chopped avocado, green onions, grated cheese, crushed tortilla chips, sour cream, and lime wedges.
